The Great Outdoors

We live in the natural beauty of the Blue Mountains where a thick misty layer appears at dawn, but within minutes is burnt off by the sun leaving the grandeur of the escarpment apparent. Sheer lookouts, deep gorges and waterfalls surround Leura. Below the escarpment, a forest of eucalypt cover the floor around Mt Solitary – from our distance at Echo Point appearing like a massive sea of gray-green.
More than 130 years ago, Leura village came into existence, for which we can thank the railway siding (stop) built to transport coal from the Gladstone mines in Katoomba. Mining, the economic driver, and transport, the essential tool, were shortly followed by the arrival of land speculators in the Blue Mountains.
