   Mt Solitary & Jamison Valley

Last week, (in May) we saw a sight not seen in the mountains since 1955. The Blue Mountains Gazette ran an article with photos and below is the link along with a comment from one of our readers:

"Hi Pat

They are great photos.  Mt Solitary went off like the atom bomb and the night time photos looked like an erupting volcano.

The firemen in the photos are the National Parks & Wildlife Service NSW staff (they initiated the hazard reduction)
which agencies have wanted to do for a long time, but about which they were a bit nervous.  It was a good time,
no wind, (except for a few days later).

The smoke went straight up in the air - creating those interesting photos.

Kind regards
Jan"

  • MT SOLITARY BURNS: a hazard reduction burn covering 3500 hectars. The Blue Mountains Gazette shares some exciting and some frightening photos. But photos of the National Parks and Wildlife Service's presence quelled our anxiety.
